Take Heart
The Ways of Love, Free of Fear and Ego
Five Thursday Mornings with Dr. David Richo
based on inspiring selections from his many books
Five Thursdays in May, 2024 — 10 to 11:30 AM (Pacific) via ZOOM
We can discover something of what it means to live in upright ways, show loving-kindness toward ourselves and others, and free ourselves from ego and fear. This workshop offers insights and practices that can help us live our lives at those psychologically healthy and spiritually conscious levels.
Our thrilling human destiny is to display in our lifetime the timeless design of love and wholeness that has always been inside us. Yes, we can take heart, that is, grow in hope and courage no matter how chaotic the world becomes or how disappointing people may be to us.
There will never be only love or only peace
but there can be more love
than before we got here
and more peace
because we stayed here in peace and with love.

Backstory of the Series
The gift of Word and Life’s Winter series was an experience of “two-eyed spirituality”. Week by week we read and listened and began to see creation through the traditional lens of Indigenous wisdom and spirituality. Week by week we discovered direct parallels with our own Christian traditions and perceptions. At the end of the series’ journey with The Four Vision Quests of Jesus, by Bishop Steven Charleston, many of us had begun to glimpse the multiple perspectives of ‘two-eyed’ seeing that gave us a depth sense of kinship and relationship between everyone and everything around us.
Jesus named that dynamic of unconditional relationship love. It is the core of his teachings and the foundation of the human curriculum. As a natural next step after the deepened awareness that emerged from our journey with the overlay of Indigenous and Western Wisdom, our Spring series will navigate the landscape of the heart. We will be reading the recently published book Take Heart: the ways of love – free of fear and ego. Its author, Dr. David Richo, will guide Word and Life’s Spring-time explorations with this remarkable book and five weeks of insightful group work and teaching.
David teaches that “There are true paths to contentment with ourselves as we are and can be and with the world as it is and may be. All it takes is heart.”
